The Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) is the main vocational training program conducted through ITIs in India, administered by the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The scheme is designed to train students in practical technical skills for various trades and make them employable in industries.

ITIs in Tamil Nadu offer training across 104 trades in 70 engineering and 34 non-engineering trades under NCVT and SCVT patterns within 23 sectors. For more details visit skilltraining.tn.gov.in/detitiadm/courses

8th pass and 10th pass

Minimum age is 14 years, upper age limit is 40 for male.

No upper age limit for women.

An NCVT certificate is a vocational training certificate issued by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). It is awarded after completing training from an ITI (Industrial Training Institute). The certificate is issued after passing the All-India Trade Test (AITT).

An SCVT certificate is a vocational training certificate issued by the State Council for Vocational Training (SCVT). SCVT functions at the state Government level and manages vocational education and training within Tamil Nadu. The SCVT certificate is Issued after completing training in an SCVT-affiliated ITI.

DST usually stands for “Dual System of Training.” It is a special training model which combines Institute training (theory + basic practical in ITI) and Industry training (hands-on practical training in real companies/factories). A student admitted in a DST trade: studies in the ITI for some period, then undergoes practical training in an associated industry/company.

NCVT PPP refers to ITI trades run under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme with NCVT affiliation. It means that the trade follows NCVT standards, and the ITI/trade is operated or supported under a PPP arrangement with industry participation.
