Mechanic Auto Body Painting

Skills taught in ITI

  • Check and interpret vehicle specification data and vehicle identification number
  • Select & operate various service station equipments
  • Identify various vehicle parts
  • Service, repair and maintenance of air compressors and air lines
  • Learn arc and gas welding
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by using scrapers, abrasives, chemical removers or other means
  • Select and mix paints to produce desired colour combinations and consistency
  • Apply decorative or protective materials such as paint, enamel or lacquer including synthetic paint on articles of wood and metal using spray painting equipment
  • Press trigger as well as direct spray of prime and finished coats of paint over surfaces to ensure smooth and even finish
  • Identify paint shop equipment and list out pre-paint preparation steps (sanding, masking, buffing, and detailing)

  • Ensure good quality paint job
  • Familiar with the causes and effects of corrosion in automobiles
  • Know-how about methods of corrosion protection
  • Ability to use different painting tools and equipment
  • Knowledge of disassembly, assembly, and cleaning of paint guns
  • Know-how about using the correct paint application
