Setting conventional lathe machines, preparing cutting tools, performing turning operations including plain turning, facing, boring, grooving, step turning, threading, knurling, and producing taper and angular components with ±0.06mm accuracy.
Performing slotting operations for internal keyways and profiling, milling operations including plain, face, angular, form, gang, and straddle milling, and producing high-accuracy components by surface and cylindrical grinding to ±0.01mm.
Resharpening single and multipoint cutting tools, preparing gear components including spur gears, helical gears, bevel gears, racks, and worm wheels, setting CNC turning centres and CNC VMC, and preparing CNC part programmes.
Skills needed by Industry
Ability to study drawings, select metal pieces, mark for machining operations, fasten in chucks and fixtures, select machine feed and speed, control coolant flow, and check dimensions using measuring instruments and gauges.
Proficiency in operating lathe, shaper, milling, slotting, drilling, and grinding machines, making necessary adjustments for stipulated accuracy, and repeating operations on same or different machines as required.
Competence in process planning, selecting tools and cutting parameters, programming CNC vertical machining centres and CNC lathes, setting up machines for repetitive work, and performing simple maintenance tasks.
