DET - ITI Admission

Basic fitting operations including marking, hacksawing, chiseling, filing, drilling, tapping, and grinding to ±0.25mm accuracy, and producing glass mirrors through cleaning, marking, drilling, forming, grinding, sensitizing, and polishing processes.
Performing surface preparation including silvering, coppering, and painting of glass mirrors, preparing furniture mirrors, concave and convex mirrors, dentist mirrors, and periscopes, and conducting inspection and testing of glasses.
Making lenses and prisms through curve generation, grinding, smoothing, polishing, centering, edging, cementing, fusion, and applying anti-reflection coatings, along with making spectacle lenses with quality control and inspection.
Making prisms and flat surfaces, applying chemical silvering and vacuum deposition on optics, working with optical instruments like telescopes, microscopes, binoculars, periscopes, range finders, and night vision devices.

Ability to cut glass tubes, rods, and sheets to specified sizes and shapes using hand tools and cutting machines, breaking excess glass, and grinding and smoothening edges using belt sanders.
Proficiency in coating mirror glass with silvering solutions, preparing silvering mixtures, applying copper solution and protective paint, and ensuring silvered surfaces are protected from moisture damage.
Competence in operating grinding machines to grind lens blanks to required curvature and thickness, applying abrasives and emery paste, selecting correct dioptric curve discs, and examining blanks for defects.
Skills in operating polishing machines with rouge or polishing compounds, setting felt-lined polishing moulds of required curvature, inspecting lens blanks for defects, and operating cylindrical polishing machines.

Can work as a Lens Grinder or Lens Polisher in optical manufacturing companies, eyewear industries, and spectacle lens production units producing precision optical components for domestic and export markets.
Can find employment in mirror manufacturing companies, glass processing industries, and architectural glass firms as a Glass Cutter or Mirror Silverer handling cutting, silvering, and surface finishing operations.
Can join defence optical instrument manufacturers, scientific instrument companies, and space research organizations producing lenses, prisms, and optical components for telescopes, periscopes, and night vision devices.
Can work in ophthalmology equipment companies, optician shops, and eye care product manufacturers fabricating spectacle lenses, magnifying glasses, and precision optical components for healthcare applications.

Can pursue a Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Optical Technology from AICTE recognized institutions to gain advanced knowledge in precision optics manufacturing and instrument design.
Can join the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) to become a certified ITI instructor in the Mechanic Lens and Prism Grinding trade after gaining required industry experience under DGT.
Can pursue specialized training in vacuum coating technology, advanced optical instrument assembly, CNC lens grinding, or precision metrology to meet growing demands of defence and scientific optics industries.
Can obtain certifications in quality management systems, optical testing methods, or anti-reflection coating processes to advance into quality control, process engineering, and supervisory roles in optical manufacturing companies.
