Skills taught in ITI

  • Identifying meteorological instruments, understanding plant life cycles, classifying fruits and vegetables by season, measuring soil physical and chemical properties, testing soil pH, and applying soil correction methods for acid and saline soils.
  • Planning and installing different irrigation systems, water lifting systems, water quality assessment, applying Integrated Nutrient Management, identifying bio-fertilizers, and understanding major and minor plant nutrient deficiency symptoms.
  • Producing fruits, vegetables, and flowers using various cultivation techniques, executing vegetative propagation methods, using plant hormones, planning garden layouts and designs, and maintaining farm power machinery.
  • Preparing and sowing seeds, planting seedlings, weeding, pruning, spraying pesticides, developing grafting and budding methods, managing nurseries, and growing plantation crops like tea, coffee, and rubber.

Skills needed by Industry

  • Ability to prepare soil, sow seeds, plant seedlings, grow flowers, trees, shrubs, and vegetables in public and private gardens following proper horticultural practices and safety guidelines.
