Identifying meteorological instruments, understanding plant life cycles, classifying fruits and vegetables by season, measuring soil physical and chemical properties, testing soil pH, and applying soil correction methods for acid and saline soils.
Planning and installing different irrigation systems, water lifting systems, water quality assessment, applying Integrated Nutrient Management, identifying bio-fertilizers, and understanding major and minor plant nutrient deficiency symptoms.
Producing fruits, vegetables, and flowers using various cultivation techniques, executing vegetative propagation methods, using plant hormones, planning garden layouts and designs, and maintaining farm power machinery.
Preparing and sowing seeds, planting seedlings, weeding, pruning, spraying pesticides, developing grafting and budding methods, managing nurseries, and growing plantation crops like tea, coffee, and rubber.

Ability to prepare soil, sow seeds, plant seedlings, grow flowers, trees, shrubs, and vegetables in public and private gardens following proper horticultural practices and safety guidelines.
Proficiency in managing nurseries, developing grafting and budding techniques, propagating plants, collecting and preserving seeds, and supervising and training labourers for planting and pruning work.
Competence in managing plantation crops like tea, coffee, and rubber including organizing farm operations, supervising harvesting, maintaining plantation estates, and keeping cost and production records.

Can work as a Gardener or Mali in public parks, private gardens, government buildings, hotels, resorts, and housing societies maintaining lawns, flower beds, hedges, and ornamental plants.
Can find employment as a Nurseryman managing plant nurseries for growing and selling seedlings, seeds, bulbs, ornamental plants, and fruit saplings to customers and agricultural businesses.
Can join plantation companies, tea and coffee estates, rubber plantations, and agro-processing firms as a Planter managing crop cultivation, harvesting, and estate maintenance operations.
Can become a self-employed entrepreneur by starting own nursery, landscape gardening service, organic vegetable farm, or floriculture unit supplying flowers and plants to local and commercial markets.

Can pursue B.Sc in Agriculture or Horticulture from UGC recognized universities to gain advanced scientific knowledge and qualify for higher positions in agricultural and horticultural organizations.
Can join the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) to become a certified ITI instructor in the Horticulture or Floriculture and Landscaping trade after gaining required field experience.
Can pursue specialized courses in landscape architecture, organic farming, protected cultivation, greenhouse management, or floriculture to meet growing demands of urban and commercial horticulture.
Can obtain certifications in precision agriculture, drip irrigation technology, integrated pest management, or food processing to enhance skills and expand career opportunities in agro-based industries.
