Drone Pilot (Junior)

Skills taught in ITI

  • Interpreting DGCA safety regulations, ATC procedures, radio telephony, weather and meteorology, and understanding fundamentals of flight including aerodynamics and different RPA airframes.
  • Identifying and assembling RPA parts including electric motors, batteries, ESC, transmitters, receivers, sensors, flight controllers, landing gears, propellers, and antennas for drone operations.
  • Installing, maintaining, and configuring ground control station software, performing preflight inspections, and carrying out basic RPA flight training using flight simulators in controlled environments.
  • Planning and organizing RPA flights in controlled and uncontrolled airspace including VLOS and BVLOS operations, analyzing weather effects on RPA performance, and applying emergency protocols.

Skills needed by Industry

  • Ability to remotely control drones and UAVs safely following DGCA regulations, ATC procedures, and airspace rules for various commercial and industrial applications.
  • Proficiency in drone operations for photography, agriculture applications including pesticide spraying, fertilizer application, seeding, farmland mapping, and crop monitoring and surveillance.
  • Competence in infrastructure inspection of power lines, pipelines, bridges, cell towers, wind turbines, and solar panels using drones to provide real-time data and post-inspection analysis.
  • Skills in wildlife management, law enforcement surveillance, e-commerce deliveries, archaeological mapping, residential home inspection, and participation in drone aerobatics and aerial advertising shows.

Upskilling Opportunities

  • Can pursue a Diploma or Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, ECE, EEE, or Mechatronics from AICTE recognized institutions to gain advanced technical knowledge in drone technology.
  • Can obtain DGCA Remote Pilot Certificate for higher category drones to operate commercially in more complex and regulated airspace environments across India and internationally.
  • Can join the Crafts Instructor Training Scheme (CITS) and accumulate over 200 hours of flying experience to become a certified ITI instructor in the Drone Pilot trade.
  • Can pursue specialized training in drone programming, autonomous flight systems, GIS mapping, photogrammetry, and AI-based drone applications to meet growing global industry demands.
